Back-to-back champs Seoul (Korea) defeat Redondo Beach 6-3

The back-to-back Pony-13 World Series Champions from Seoul (Korea) looked strong once again as they defeated Redondo Beach, California (USA) in game one of the 2019 tournament. Seoul relied on a stiff defense to hold the Redondo bats three runs in the 6-3 win.

Ko Do Yeong singled in the bottom half of the first to bring across Moon Tae Gyun for the first run of the game. Two batters later, Yeong crossed home off a Park Jun Seong single.

Redondo Beach quickly tied up the game in the next half inning. Nathan Rivera and Cooper Couig both scored a run in the top of the second inning to tie the game.

Seoul didn’t let up in their half of the second, though. An error and a fielder’s choice brought in two runners in for Seoul. Seong followed that with a single to bring in another runner, and Seoul suddenly saw themselves up 5-2.

The three run gap was enough wiggle room for Seoul to escape with the win. Redondo Beach added a run late, but it wasn’t enough to cut the deficit. Seoul scored an insurance run in the sixth and eventually won the game 6-3.

Seoul relied on four pitchers to get the job done against Redondo Beach. As a team, they allowed five hits and struck out five batters.

Ko Do Yeong did his part to get Seoul the win on the offensice end. He accounted for half of the Seoul runs, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and two run scores.

Next up for Seoul (Korea) is Johnstown, PA (USA) Saturday at 4:30 p.m. PT at York Field.
