DAY FIVE

Game 19 - Tijuana, Baja, Mexico (2) vs. Vega Alta, Puerto Rico (6)

Vega Alta, Puerto Rico delivered a complete performance on Tuesday at Aviara Community Park, defeating Tijuana, Baja, Mexico 6-2 behind a dominant outing from Diego Suarez.

Vega Alta broke the scoreless tie in the top of the third inning when a wild pitch allowed the game’s first run to cross the plate. They added two more in the fourth to extend their lead, forcing Tijuana to play from behind for the remainder of the game.

Suarez was outstanding on the mound, throwing a complete game. The right-hander surrendered just two hits and two unearned runs over seven innings, striking out five without issuing a walk. His command and efficiency kept Tijuana’s offense off balance all afternoon.

Tijuana starter M. Reyes was equally impressive early, striking out nine batters in just 3.2 innings of work. He allowed five hits and three runs before handing the ball to the bullpen.

At the plate, Vega Alta’s offense was steady and balanced. D. Castro and D. Figueroa provided the spark, each collecting two hits while hitting back-to-back in the order. Castro, Figueroa, E. Rivera, and Suarez each drove in a run to help secure the win. Vega Alta also flashed the leather defensively, turning a key double play to halt a potential Tijuana rally.

For Tijuana, J. Rosales and S. Gross were the bright spots, each notching a hit while hitting consecutively in the lineup. Rosales drove in one of Tijuana’s two runs and finished 1-for-3 at the plate.

With the win, Vega Alta, Puerto Rico bounced back from their previous loss and gained momentum heading deeper into tournament play. Their strong pitching and timely hitting will make them a team to watch going forward.

Championship Game - Chiba, Japan (9) vs. Vega Alta, Puerto Rico (0)

Chiba, Japan turned in a dominant all-around performance on Tuesday at Aviara Community Park, blanking Vega Alta, Puerto Rico 9-0 behind a three-pitcher shutout. S. Uchida, Haruto Eguchi, and Ichito Ohama combined to stifle the Puerto Rican lineup, allowing just three hits all game. Eguchi struck out J. Veiazquez to record the final out and secure the win.

Uchida set the tone from the start, delivering a masterful outing on the mound. The right-hander struck out 10 batters over five scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and issuing no walks. His precision and power completely neutralized Vega Alta’s offense.

Chiba’s bats provided early run support, scoring three times in the bottom of the first inning. K. Katsuta singled to center field to drive in the first run, followed by an RBI single down the right field line from T. Nagata. H. Hirai added a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 3-0. The offense continued to apply pressure throughout the game, capitalizing on Vega Alta miscues to build a comfortable lead. Y. Okada led the team with two RBIs, while Katsuta and Nagata paced the lineup with two hits apiece, hitting back-to-back at the top of the order.

On the other side, Vega Alta starter E. Rivera battled but struggled against the disciplined Chiba lineup. He allowed seven hits and seven runs (three earned) over 4.1 innings. Eguchi and Ohama each pitched scoreless frames in relief for Chiba, sealing the combined shutout effort. Defensively, Chiba was flawless, committing no errors in the field. T. Suzuki anchored the defense with 10 chances handled cleanly.

For Vega Alta, D. Castro, Rivera, and Diego Suarez each recorded one hit, but the offense was never able to mount a sustained rally.

DAY FOUR

Game 14 - San Diego, California (2) vs. Carlsbad, California (5)


Carlsbad, California surged late to claim a 5-2 victory over San Diego, California on Monday at Aviara Community Park, powered by a three-run seventh inning and steady pitching throughout the game.

San Diego opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning when W. Lara Jr. delivered a clutch RBI single, giving his team a 1-0 lead. Carlsbad answered in the top of the fifth as R. Nishimoto lined a single down the left field line to bring home the tying run and level the game at one.

San Diego briefly regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a solo home run to center field by N. Lacson, his first of the tournament, making it 2-1.

However, Carlsbad refused to back down. In the top of the sixth, they capitalized on a wild pitch to tie the game once again, setting the stage for a dramatic seventh inning.

In the decisive seventh, Carlsbad strung together a series of productive at-bats to take control. J. Tran ripped a single to left to give Carlsbad its first lead of the game. Moments later, M. Lohre was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in another run, and A. Coyne followed with an RBI single down the left field line to cap the three-run frame and put Carlsbad up 5-2.

W. Long anchored Carlsbad’s win on the mound, tossing four solid innings in relief. He allowed just four hits and one run while striking out two without issuing a walk. Starter C. Dooley held things down early, pitching two innings and allowing one run on two hits.

San Diego’s Lara Jr. started on the hill and turned in a strong performance despite the loss, throwing 6.2 innings, giving up nine hits and five runs (four earned), striking out seven and walking two.

Carlsbad’s offense was steady throughout the lineup, racking up 10 hits. Leadoff hitter R. Nishimoto had a standout performance, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and setting the tone at the top of the order. W. Peabody also added two hits in three at-bats, while Coyne, Lohre, Nishimoto, and Tran each contributed an RBI.

Defensively, Carlsbad turned a double play and stayed poised throughout. San Diego’s lineup was led by Lara Jr. and Lacson, who each drove in a run, and E. Weber, who went 2-for-2 from the eight-hole in the batting order.

With the win, Carlsbad, California improves their standing in tournament play and gains momentum heading into their next matchup.

Game 15 - Tijuana, Baja, Mexico (6)  vs. Chinandega, Nicaragua (1)

S. Gross delivered a standout performance at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a solo home run, as Tijuana, Baja, Mexico powered past Chinandega, Nicaragua 6-1 on Monday at Aviara Community Park. Gross wasted no time making an impact, singling in both the first and second innings before blasting a solo home run to center field in the fourth. The middle-of-the-order bat proved to be a driving force in Tijuana’s offense, helping the team stay firmly in control from the opening pitch.

Tijuana struck early, putting two runs on the board in the top of the first. R. Ruvalcaba grounded out to score the first run, followed by D. Garcia drawing a bases-loaded walk to bring in another. The offense stayed hot in the second inning. A. Jimenez lined an RBI single to center, Gross added a base hit down the left field line, and J. Rosales drove in another run with a fielder’s choice. By the end of the frame, Tijuana held a commanding 5-0 lead.

Gross added an exclamation point in the fourth with a solo homer to dead center, extending the lead to 6-0. On the mound, J. Galvan was dominant for Tijuana. The right-hander pitched 5.1 innings, allowing just four hits and one run while striking out eight and walking two. I. Reyes came on in relief and shut the door, throwing 1.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

Rosales and Gross were a dynamic duo in the lineup, each collecting three hits to pace the offense. Garcia added two stolen bases and reached base twice. Tijuana, Baja, Mexico also played clean defense, committing no errors. M. Reyes anchored the fielding unit, recording 10 chances without a misstep.

For Chinandega, Nicaragua, E. Lopez provided the lone RBI and went 1-for-3 on the day. Offensively, the team managed five hits in total—one each from Lopez, J. Montalvan, A. Moran, N. Salinas, and E. Solorzano. Defensively, Chinandega turned a crisp double play in the third to momentarily halt Tijuana’s momentum. With this win, Tijuana, Baja, Mexico continues to gain momentum in tournament play, showcasing both offensive firepower and a disciplined pitching staff.

Game 16 - Carlsbad, CA (0) vs. Chiba, Japan (5)

Carlsbad, California was unable to crack the code against a sharp Chiba, Japan squad, falling 5-0 on Monday afternoon at Aviara Community Park. Chiba, Japan wasted no time taking control, striking early in the bottom of the first inning. Taisho Nagata kicked things off with a single down the right field line, followed by a run-scoring double from H. Hirai. Y. Okada grounded out to second to bring home another, giving Chiba an early 2-0 advantage.

Chiba continued to build on its lead throughout the game, relying on timely hits and smart base running. Okada would later add to his RBI total, while Nagata kept the pressure on with a 3-for-3 day at the plate and a pair of stolen bases. Hirai also turned in a strong performance with two hits in three at-bats, keeping the Carlsbad defense on its toes. Carlsbad had trouble generating offense against Chiba starter Y. Nakahama, who was lights out on the mound. Nakahama went five scoreless innings, allowing only three hits, striking out two, and issuing no walks in a poised and efficient outing.

On the other side, J. Tran got the start for Carlsbad and battled through five innings, allowing six hits and four earned runs while striking out four and walking one. Despite the loss, Tran kept Carlsbad within reach until late in the game. Offensively, Carlsbad was led by B. Farrell, N. Donovan, and C. Dooley, who each picked up one hit. However, the team was unable to string together rallies against Chiba's stingy pitching and crisp defense, which included a well-executed double play in the middle innings.

Chiba, Japan’s disciplined approach at the plate and clean execution in the field proved too much, as they handed Carlsbad, California its first shutout loss of the tournament. Carlsbad will look to bounce back in their next matchup, while Chiba continues to establish itself as a team to watch in tournament play.

Game 17 - Tijuana, Baja, Mexico (10) vs. Vega Alta, Puerto Rico (3)

Tijuana, Baja, Mexico delivered a commanding performance on Monday at Aviara Community Park, pulling away in the middle innings to secure a 10-3 win over Vega Alta, Puerto Rico. The scoring began in the top of the second inning when J. Avila came through with a clutch RBI single to give Tijuana a 1-0 edge. Vega Alta quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning as A. Soto battled through a six-pitch at-bat and drove a single into center field, tying the game at one.

The game remained deadlocked until the fifth, when Tijuana broke things wide open with a five-run outburst. A well-balanced mix of aggressive base running and timely hitting helped fuel the surge. J. Rosales delivered the biggest hit of the inning — a sharply hit single that plated three runs and gave Tijuana a commanding 6-1 lead.

Tijuana didn’t let up from there, tacking on four more runs over the next two innings to cement their lead. The offense showed impressive discipline at the plate, drawing nine walks in addition to ten hits, applying constant pressure on Vega Alta’s pitching staff. J. Avila led the offensive charge, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs from the seven-spot in the lineup. Avila’s bat stayed hot throughout the game and proved crucial to Tijuana’s success. I. Marquez and J. Galvan kept things moving on the basepaths, each swiping multiple bags as part of a dynamic running game.

On the mound, R. Ruvalcaba got the start for Tijuana and turned in a solid effort, going 4.1 innings and allowing three runs on five hits, while striking out four. S. Gross came in to shut things down in relief, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings, striking out four and walking just one to preserve the lead. Vega Alta, Puerto Rico was led by Diego Suarez, who went 3-for-4 and consistently found ways to reach base. Soto, Suarez, and D. Figueroa each drove in a run, but the team struggled to recover from the fifth-inning onslaught.

Tijuana also played a clean game defensively, turning one double play and making several sharp plays in the field. With the win, Tijuana, Baja, Mexico continues to build momentum as they aim for a deep tournament run, while Vega Alta will look to bounce back in their next matchup.

DAY THREE

Game 10 - Chinandega, Nicaragua (7) vs. Placentia, California (0)


Chinandega, Nicaragua delivered a dominant all-around performance on Sunday at Aviara Community Park, shutting out Placentia, California 7-0 behind a two-pitcher gem from N. Salinas and H. Rivera.

Salinas set the tone early, working 5.2 scoreless innings and keeping the Placentia lineup off balance with a mix of precision and power. He scattered four hits, struck out six, and issued just one walk in a masterful outing. Rivera came on in relief and sealed the win with 1.1 innings of shutout baseball. He allowed just two hits, struck out one, walked one, and ended the game by inducing a double play — slamming the door on any hopes of a Placentia rally.

Chinandega’s offense provided plenty of support, striking first in the second inning when L. Zeledon delivered a two-run single to give them an early 2-0 lead. They struck again in the sixth with a big swing from E. Solorzano, who launched a two-run home run to center field to extend the lead. Chinandega continued to tack on runs through disciplined at-bats and timely hitting, ultimately building a comfortable seven-run cushion.

E. Lopez and A. Zapata were relentless at the plate, each collecting two hits and setting the table for the heart of the order. Zapata, Solorzano, and Zeledon each tallied two RBIs to lead the charge. Chinandega’s hitters combined patience with power, consistently putting pressure on Placentia’s pitchers. Placentia’s starter, J. Esparza, kept his team within striking distance through the early innings, allowing just three hits and two runs while striking out five in three innings of work. However, Placentia’s offense struggled to break through against Chinandega’s stingy pitching. Despite the loss, M. Mejia was a bright spot for Placentia, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and accounting for nearly all of the team's offensive highlights.

Defensively, Chinandega remained sharp, turning one double play and playing error-free baseball throughout the game — a testament to their poise and discipline on the field. With the win, Chinandega, Nicaragua continues to show why they’re a dangerous contender, combining shutdown pitching with timely, clutch hitting in a well-rounded effort.

Game 11 - Brownsville, Texas (2) vs. San Diego, California (18)

Brownsville, Texas couldn’t keep pace with San Diego, California’s explosive offense on Sunday, falling 18-2 at Aviara Community Park. San Diego wasted no time getting on the board, putting up four runs in the top of the first inning. J. Merkel opened the scoring with an RBI single, followed by a fielder’s choice from R. Ham that brought in another run. P. Tamyo capped off the rally with a two-run single to give San Diego a commanding early lead.

The offensive surge continued in the second, as San Diego added two more runs. Merkel drew a bases-loaded walk, and Ham lifted a sacrifice fly to stretch the lead to 6-0. The floodgates opened in the third inning when San Diego erupted for eight runs on eight hits. K. Forero reached on a fielder’s choice to bring in a run, followed by an RBI single from W. Lara Jr. N. Lacson added another RBI single before Merkel drove in a run on a groundout. Ham then ripped a two-run double, Tamyo added an RBI single, and E. Weber knocked in a run to cap off the massive frame, making it 14-0.

Brownsville managed to get on the board in the bottom of the third, plating two runs. M. Solis drove in a run on a fielder’s choice, and another scored on a wild pitch. But it wasn’t enough to slow down the San Diego momentum. San Diego added four more in the top of the fourth to seal the victory, including RBI hits from multiple players throughout the lineup.

E. Cooper got the start for San Diego and pitched effectively, allowing two hits and two runs over 2.1 innings while striking out one. R. Hernandez Jr. took the mound for Brownsville and struggled against the relentless San Diego lineup, giving up six runs on five hits in just over an inning of work. San Diego’s offense was red-hot, racking up 16 hits. Lara Jr. and Lacson were a dynamic duo, both going 3-for-3 at the plate. Ham was the catalyst in the heart of the order, driving in five runs while going 1-for-3. Tamyo, Weber, and Dinh each contributed multiple hits in the win.

For Brownsville, A. Cavazos, L. Frady, and P. Tovar each notched one hit. Solis accounted for the team’s lone RBI. San Diego’s complete team effort — fueled by timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and consistent at-bats — proved too much for Brownsville to handle in the Sunday matchup.

Game 12 - Chiba, Japan (9) vs. Carlsbad, California (0)

Carlsbad, California struggled to generate offense on Sunday afternoon, falling 9-0 to Chiba, Japan at Aviara Community Park in a game defined by sharp pitching, disciplined hitting, and clean defense from the Japanese squad. Chiba, Japan set the tone early, striking first in the bottom of the first inning when T. Nagata singled to center to drive in the game’s opening run. They extended the lead to 2-0 in the second after an error by Carlsbad allowed another run to score. In the third inning, D. Nakata grounded out to bring home another run, giving Chiba a 3-0 advantage.

The game broke open in the bottom of the fourth, when Chiba added four runs on multiple hits and aggressive base running. K. Asaka, R. Miyamoto, and H. Hirai each drove in runs to widen the gap. Chiba tacked on two more in the later innings to cap off a complete performance on both sides of the ball. M. Lohre started the game for Carlsbad, going 3.1 innings and allowing six hits and four runs (only one earned), while striking out two and walking three. Despite Lohre’s efforts on the mound, Carlsbad's defense faltered with costly errors that helped fuel Chiba’s scoring.

Y. Nakahama got the start for Chiba and delivered a strong opening frame, striking out two while allowing just one hit. Chiba's bullpen took it from there, combining for six shutout innings and limiting Carlsbad to just five hits total. Carlsbad’s offense struggled to string together any rallies, though B. Farrell, C. Dooley, L. Rivera, R. Nishimoto, and J. Tran each recorded one hit. The team threatened a few times but couldn’t push a run across the plate.

Chiba, on the other hand, showcased a well-rounded offensive attack, tallying 10 hits. Nagata led the charge with a 3-for-4 performance, while K. Katsuta chipped in two hits. Hirai, Miyamoto, Nagata, and Asaka each contributed an RBI, and the team displayed patience at the plate, working six walks in total. Defensively, Chiba was flawless — not committing a single error. T. Suzuki anchored the infield with six total chances, helping to maintain the shutout.

It was a tough day at the park for Carlsbad, who will look to regroup and bounce back in their next matchup. Meanwhile, Chiba, Japan continues to impress with their efficient offense, strong pitching depth, and airtight defense.

Game 13 - Vega Alta, Puerto Rico (7) vs. Tijuana, Baja, Mexico (3)

Vega Alta, Puerto Rico delivered a well-rounded performance on Sunday at Aviara Community Park, defeating Tijuana, Baja, Mexico 7-3 behind early offense, clutch hitting, and dominant relief pitching.

The scoring started quickly in the bottom of the first as Vega Alta wasted no time getting on the board. D. Figueroa drove in the first run with a sharp single, and just moments later, Diego Suarez launched a two-run home run over the left field fence to give Puerto Rico an early 3-0 lead and ignite the home crowd.

In the second inning, Vega Alta capitalized on a dropped third strike and a double to left field by Elisahir Rivera, stretching their lead to 5-0. J. Veiazquez added another run in the third with a line drive single down the left field line, making it 6-2.

Figueroa shined on both sides of the ball. In addition to his RBI single, he took the mound in relief and was dominant, tossing 3.1 innings while allowing just one run on six hits, striking out seven and walking two. His poise under pressure helped quiet a potential Tijuana comeback. Derek Poueymirow started for Vega Alta, working two innings, allowing one hit and two runs, but struggled with command, walking seven.

Tijuana tried to stay in the game with patient at-bats, drawing 10 walks on the day. R. Ruvalcaba and A. Jimenez each recorded two hits, with Ruvalcaba driving in two of the team’s three runs. M. Reyes and S. Gross contributed three walks apiece as part of Tijuana's disciplined approach at the plate, but timely hits proved elusive.

Offensively, Suarez led Vega Alta with three RBIs despite going 1-for-4. Rivera and Figueroa each collected two hits, while Jayden Richardson showed great plate discipline, drawing two walks. As a team, Puerto Rico tallied seven free passes and kept the pressure on all game.

Defensively, both teams were sharp. Vega Alta and Tijuana each turned a double play and played error-free baseball. J. Veiazquez was a steady presence at shortstop, leading Vega Alta with four defensive chances. For Tijuana, I. Soto was busy behind the dish or in the field (position not listed), tallying a game-high 11 chances.

With the win, Vega Alta, Puerto Rico showcased their depth, power, and poise — key ingredients as they look to build momentum in tournament play.

DAY TWO

Game 5 - Chicago, Illinois (2) vs. Brownsville, Texas (6)


Brownsville, Texas used a strong fourth-inning rally and a solid pitching performance to defeat Chicago, Illinois 6-2 on Saturday at Aviara Community Park. 
Brownsville got on the board early, manufacturing a run in the bottom of the first inning when L. Frady grounded out to bring a runner home and give his team a 1-0 lead.

Chicago responded in the top of the fourth with a surge of their own. J. Perez provided the spark, launching a two-run home run over the left field fence to give Chicago a brief 2-1 lead and swing momentum in their direction. However, Brownsville answered quickly and decisively in the bottom of the fourth. A. Cavazos tied the game with a sacrifice fly, and moments later, P. Tovar delivered a clutch two-run single to put Brownsville back in front, 4-2. They tacked on two more insurance runs in the fifth to stretch the lead to 6-2 and never looked back.

On the mound, N. Torres led the way for Brownsville, tossing 3.2 strong innings while allowing just three hits and two runs. He struck out five and didn’t issue a walk. The bullpen followed with shutout relief to secure the win. Chicago starter J. Carpio worked three innings, giving up three hits and three runs while striking out one and walking one. Offensively, Perez powered Chicago’s lineup with a two-run homer, while B. Chapman was a bright spot at the plate, going 2-for-3 to lead the team in hits.

Brownsville’s offense was paced by P. Tovar, who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Frady and M. Solis also collected two hits apiece, while R.  Jr. contributed with a pair of RBIs. The Brownsville lineup showed balance and patience throughout the game, capitalizing on key opportunities to drive in runs.

Defensively, Brownsville was clean and efficient, not committing a single error. L. Olmeda anchored the defense with a team-high eight  chances in the field. With the win, Brownsville continues to show they’re a force to be reckoned with, combining timely hitting, reliable pitching, and mistake-free defense to keep their tournament run alive. J. Perez #25 was the MVP. He hit 2 home runs today, and today is his birthday!

Congratulations to Chicago, IL on their 2025 PONY-13 World Series Appearance! The team finished with a 0-2 record, and have been eliminated from the tournament. Brownsville, TX will face loser of the Game 8: Tijuana, Baja, Mexico vs. San Diego.

Game 6 - Altoona, Pennsylvania (2) vs. Placentia, California (3)


Despite out-hitting Placentia, California eight to seven, Altoona, Pennsylvania came up just short in a tightly contested 3-2 loss on Saturday at Aviara Community Park. Altoona came out swinging, grabbing an early lead with runs in the first and second innings. C. Lechner got things started with an RBI single in the opening frame, and R. Daniels added to the advantage in the second with a sharp single down the right field line, bringing the score to 2-0.

Placentia remained composed and slowly chipped away at the deficit. In the sixth inning, G. Oborn grounded into a fielder’s choice, scoring a run to tie the game at 2-2. Then, in the top of the eighth, Oborn came through once again — this time drawing a bases-loaded walk to bring home the go-ahead run and put Placentia ahead for good, 3-2. Although Altoona continued to make solid contact, they couldn’t break through Placentia’s timely defense, which turned a remarkable three double plays throughout the game to stall multiple threats.

On the mound, K. Meloy delivered a gritty performance for Altoona, tossing 7.1 innings while allowing just seven hits and three runs (two earned). He struck out three and walked one in a strong outing. D. Godsey got the start for Placentia, working 1.2 innings and giving up five hits and two runs before the bullpen stepped in and shut things down the rest of the way. Placentia pitchers combined for six strikeouts on the day.

Altoona had contributions up and down the lineup, with eight different players — C. Butler, P. Jones, K. Shields, M. Mellott, M. Bonin, R. Daniels, C. Lechner, and K. Meloy — each recording one hit. Daniels and Lechner drove in the team’s only two runs. Bonin also showed his speed on the basepaths, swiping two bases. The defense turned one double play in support of Meloy’s effort on the mound. For Placentia, Oborn was the difference-maker, finishing the day with two RBIs despite not recording a hit. J. Jeon was a catalyst at the top of the lineup, going 2-for-4. Placentia's clean defensive play and timely pitching helped seal the win, despite being out-hit.

Although Altoona, Pennsylvania came up short, their performance showed resilience and balance, proving they can compete with the top teams in the tournament. Placentia, meanwhile, continues to find ways to win in close games — a key trait in championship-caliber teams.

Congratulations to Altoona, PA on their 2025 PONY-13 World Series Appearance! The team finished with a 0-2 record, and have been eliminated from the tournament. Placentia, CA will face the loser of Game 7: Carlsbad, CA vs. Chinandega Nicaragua. 

Game 7 - Carlsbad, CA (3) vs. Chinandega Nicaragua (1)


In a game defined by elite pitching on both sides, Carlsbad, California edged out Chinandega, Nicaragua 3-1 on Saturday at Aviara Community Park. Carlsbad wasted no time jumping ahead in the bottom of the first inning. W. Peabody drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in the first run, and M. Lohre followed by grounding into a fielder’s choice — but a fielding miscue allowed two runs to cross the plate, giving Carlsbad a quick 3-0 advantage.

Those three runs proved to be all Carlsbad would need, thanks to a stellar effort from their pitching staff. J. Tran got the start and was sharp, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings while allowing just one hit, striking out six, and walking one. T. Hall entered in relief and was dominant, firing 3.2 innings of shutout baseball with seven strikeouts and no walks while surrendering only one hit. Together, the duo combined for 13 strikeouts and held Chinandega to just three total hits on the day.

Chinandega’s starter D. Valle also turned in a solid outing despite the early trouble, giving up only two hits and three runs (all in the first inning) across three innings. He struck out three and walked one before handing the ball off to the bullpen, which kept Carlsbad off the board for the remainder of the game. Carlsbad's offense was limited to just three hits, but made them count. R. Nishimoto and Tran each picked up a hit from the top of the order, while Lohre led the team with two RBIs. Despite not adding to their early lead, Carlsbad’s efficient pitching and clean defense kept them firmly in control.

Chinandega, Nicaragua got on the board in the fourth inning, when E. Lopez drove in a run with a single. Lopez, along with N. Salinas and E. Solorzano, accounted for Chinandega’s three hits. Defensively, Chinandega played a clean game with no errors, and Solorzano led the way with five chances in the field. The win was a testament to Carlsbad’s ability to capitalize early and then rely on dominant pitching and steady defense to shut the door. With the victory, they continue to build momentum as the tournament progresses.

Chinandega Nicaragua will face Placentia, CA on July 27 at 9:00AM. Carlsbad, CA will face Chiba, Japan on July 27 at 3:00PM.

Game 8 - Tijuana, Baja, Mexico (9) vs. San Diego, California (4)


San Diego, California couldn’t overcome a mid-game surge from Tijuana, Baja, Mexico, falling 9-4 on Saturday at Aviara Community Park. After two scoreless innings, Tijuana broke through in the bottom of the third. A. Jimenez got things going with an RBI single to center, followed by a costly San Diego error that allowed another run to score. J. Rosales then ripped a double down the left field line, capping the inning and giving Tijuana a 3-0 lead.

San Diego responded with four runs of their own, but Tijuana took control for good in the bottom of the fifth. R. Ruvalcaba doubled to bring in a run, and J. Avila delivered the big blow — a three-run homer to center field. M. Reyes followed with an RBI triple, extending the lead to 8-4. Tijuana would tack on another run to seal the game at 9-4. On the mound, R. Ham started for San Diego, allowing four runs (only one earned) on three hits over 3.1 innings while striking out two and walking one. J. Rosales got the start for Tijuana and was effective, going 6.2 innings while allowing five hits and four runs, striking out eight and walking just one.

San Diego’s offense was led by W. Lara Jr., who drove in three runs from the number seven spot in the lineup and finished the game 2-for-3. Despite solid at-bats, San Diego was held to five total hits on the day.

Tijuana’s bats stayed hot throughout the contest, collecting 10 hits as a team. Reyes and Jimenez each notched two hits, while Avila led the team with three RBIs thanks to his clutch home run. Tijuana also applied pressure on the base paths, swiping six stolen bases to keep the San Diego defense on edge. Defensively, Tijuana was flawless, committing no errors in the field. I. Soto was active at shortstop, leading the team with eight chances. The win highlighted Tijuana’s all-around strength — timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and efficient pitching — while San Diego showed fight but couldn’t recover after Tijuana’s explosive fifth inning.

Tijuana, Baja, Mexico will face Vega Alta, Puerto Rico on July 27 at 6:00PM. San Diego will face Brownsville, TX on July 27 at 12:00PM.





DAY ONE

Game 1 - Placentia, California (0) vs. Vega Alta, Puerto Rico (8)

Vega Alta, Puerto Rico made a powerful statement on Friday at Aviara Community Park, jumping out to an early lead and never looking back in an 8-0 shutout win over Placentia, California. The game’s momentum was set in the bottom of the first inning, when Vega Alta erupted for five runs. D. Figueroa opened the scoring with an RBI double, followed by a run scoring on a dropped third strike. Moments later, Diego Suarez broke the game open with a towering three-run home run to left field, giving Vega Alta a commanding 5-0 lead before Placentia could settle in.

Suarez continued to shine in the third inning, driving in another run with a sharp single down the left field line. I. Lopez added to the tally by drawing a bases-loaded walk, stretching the lead to 7-0. Vega Alta would tack on one more run before the day was done, while keeping Placentia off the scoreboard entirely.

On the mound, Y. Arvelo set the tone early for Vega Alta, tossing two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out one and walking two. The Vega Alta bullpen followed suit, locking down the game with consistent command and control. Placentia starter Max Mejia allowed four hits and seven runs over 2.2 innings, striking out three. Despite the tough outing, he issued no walks.

Offensively, L. McMillan, K. Glenn, and Jordan Jeon each picked up a hit for Placentia, but the team was unable to string anything together against Vega Alta’s pitching and defense. Suarez was the standout performer of the game, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two stolen bases. His performance powered a Vega Alta lineup that combined discipline at the plate with timely hitting. The team drew seven walks with Lopez and J. Velazquez each reaching twice via base on balls.

Defensively, Vega Alta was flawless, turning two double plays and finishing the game without committing a single error. R. Torres anchored the defense with 11 total chances in the field. With the win, Vega Alta continues to build momentum, showcasing a balanced attack of power, pitching, and defense — a formula that could serve them well as the tournament progresses.

Game 2 - Chicago, Illinois (0) vs. Chiba, Japan (12)

Chicago, Illinois faced a tough challenge on Friday at Aviara Community Park, falling 12-0 to a red-hot Chiba, Japan team that delivered a complete performance on both sides of the ball. Chiba wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, putting up five runs in the top of the first inning. K. Katsuta opened the scoring with a two-run single, followed by RBI doubles from T. Nagata, H. Hirai, and R. Miyamoto — each plating a run and giving Chiba a quick 5-0 lead. The offensive pressure continued in the second, when Katsuta singled down the left field line to score another run and extend the lead to 6-0.

In the third, Chiba broke the game wide open with a five-run outburst on six hits. R. Miyamoto and Ichito Ohama each delivered RBI triples, Daiki Nakamata added a run-scoring single, and H. Yamada capped the rally with a two-RBI single, bringing the score to 11-0.

Chicago’s starter, S. Taylor, had a rough outing, allowing four hits and five runs in just one-third of an inning. Despite the early setback, the Chicago bullpen battled to keep the game within reach. Chiba starter Y. Nakahama was efficient, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings while giving up just one hit and striking out two. Offensively, Chicago was limited to two hits in the game — singles by S. Salinas and J. Carpio — as the team struggled to get anything going against Chiba’s dominant pitching and defense.

Chiba's offense racked up 13 hits in total, led by H. Yamada, who went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and four stolen bases. Hirai added two hits of his own, and Chiba finished the game with six stolen bases, showcasing aggressive and smart base running throughout. Defensively, Chiba was sharp and mistake-free, not committing a single error. T. Suzuki led the way with six defensive plays as Chiba flashed both range and reliability in the field. With the victory, Chiba, Japan continues to assert itself as a serious contender, combining offensive firepower with clean, fundamental baseball.

Chicago, IL will play Brownsville, TX on July 26th at 9:00AM. Chiba, Japan will play the Winner of Game 7 on July 27th at 3:00PM.

Game 3 - Altoona, Pennsylvania (1) vs. San Diego, California (12)

San Diego struck first in the opening frame when E. Cooper delivered a two-run double to set the tone early. But it was the top of the second inning where they truly broke the game open, scoring eight runs on six hits to take full control.

J. Merkel started the second-inning rally with an RBI single, followed by N. Lacson’s two-run double to extend the lead. Cooper added two more RBIs with a single to left, while W. Lara Jr. brought home a run on a fielder’s choice. E. Weber capped the inning with a two-run single, pushing San Diego ahead 10-0 after just two innings. The momentum didn’t stop there. In the third, Merkel doubled to center field and R. Ham singled down the right field line — each driving in a run to stretch the lead to 12-0. Altoona got on the board in the bottom of the second with their lone run, but San Diego’s pitching and defense locked in from there to preserve the dominant win.

J. Davenport got the start for San Diego, tossing 1.1 hitless innings and allowing one unearned run. The bullpen held strong to close it out. Altoona’s C. Lechner started on the mound, allowing two runs over one inning. C. Miller pitched three innings in relief, giving up three hits and two runs without issuing a walk or recording a strikeout. Offensively, San Diego racked up 12 hits. Cooper was a standout at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a game-high four RBIs. Lacson led the team with three hits in four at-bats, while Merkel and Weber each had multi-hit performances.

Altoona was held to just three hits, one each from P. Jones, Z. Hertzler, and Miller. M. Mellott recorded the team’s only RBI. The defense turned a double play to help limit further damage. San Diego also impressed in the field, playing error-free baseball and turning a double play of their own. R. Ham led the way defensively with five chances. With a balanced performance across offense, pitching, and defense, San Diego, California showcased why they are a team to watch as the tournament continues.

Game 4 - Carlsbad, California (5) vs. Brownsville, Texas (2)

Carlsbad, California used a clutch seventh-inning rally to break a tie and secure a 5-2 victory over Brownsville, Texas on Friday at Aviara Community Park. Brownsville struck early, plating two runs in the bottom of the first. R. Hernandez Jr. grounded out to drive in the first run, followed by an RBI single to center field from L. Olmeda to make it 2-0. Carlsbad responded in the top of the fourth when A. Coyne delivered a two-run double down the right field line, evening the score at 2-2 and shifting the momentum.

After a quiet middle stretch, the game came to life again in the top of the seventh. With the score still tied, W. Peabody came through in the clutch, singling to drive in two runs and give Carlsbad a 4-2 lead. Moments later, C. Dooley added insurance with an RBI double, pushing the lead to 5-2 and silencing the Brownsville dugout.

Carlsbad’s bullpen was outstanding, combining for six shutout innings to secure the win. J. Tran earned the victory after tossing a scoreless sixth, allowing no hits and striking out one. Peabody not only delivered at the plate but also closed out the game on the mound, earning the save. T. Hall, M. Lohre, and L. Renick each contributed scoreless innings in relief to preserve the lead. Starter W. Long pitched the first inning, giving up two runs on three hits while striking out two.

At the plate, R. Nishimoto led Carlsbad with a pair of hits from the leadoff spot, while Coyne was key in the cleanup role, going 1-for-1 with a walk and two RBIs. Defensively, Carlsbad was clean, committing no errors. B. Farrell was solid behind the plate and in the field, leading the team with 13 defensive chances.

For Brownsville, I. Torres led the offense with a 2-for-3 performance. Hernandez Jr. reached base twice on walks and added an RBI, while Olmeda contributed an RBI single as well. Despite being held to just five hits, Brownsville showed patience at the plate, drawing nine walks in the game. The defense turned one double play to help limit Carlsbad’s offense through the early innings. Ultimately, it was Carlsbad’s timely hitting and shutdown relief pitching that proved to be the difference, as they came away with a hard-fought win to continue their tournament run.
