The West Zone’s Redondo Beach, CA (USA) elimanted the back-to-back Pony-13 World Series Champions Seoul (Korea) Sunday at York Field in Whittier, California. Redondo’s starting pitcher Cameron O’Neil played all seven innings and struck out 10 Seoul batters in the 4-2 win.

Redondo Beach got on the board in their very first at-bats. Gabe Ibarra drew a walk and was later brought in by Cooper Couig. Couig stormed a ball to right field, and the outfielder was unable to get the ball to home on time.

Redondo Beach scored right away, but they saw Seoul take over the lead over the next few innings. Seoul scored off a Kim Min Seong double in the second inning, then Seong doubled again in the fourth to bring in another run. Seong’s RBIs gave Seoul the 2-1 lead after four innings.

Redondo Beach got things rolling again in the sixth. Couig and Sonny Hurtado both singled after the leadoff man struck out. After Hurtado, Reid Kaluger hit a ground ball to Seoul’s shortstop. The shortstop made an erred throw, however, and Hurtado came across for the tying run.

Matteo Simon and Cameron O’Neil brought in Couig and Kaluger later in the inning and Redondo Beach took a 4-2 lead. Seoul had nothing going for them in the sixth and seventh. The score remained at 4-2 to give Redondo Beach the win.

Cooper Couig went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored to lead the way for the Redondo Beach offense. Kim Min Seong went 2-for-3 for Seoul, and drove in their only two runs.
